Volunteer At Minds Matter Portland!

Join Us in Empowering Portland Students

Our volunteers are at the heart of our vision for change. Thank you for your interest in supporting our students and mission! If you have any questions, please reach out to us at volunteer@mindsmatterportland.org.

At Minds Matter Portland, a dedicated community of professionals from across the Portland area makes our work possible. Our mentors, tutors, and volunteers commit their time and expertise each week to help students pursue their academic and career dreams.

Ways to Get Involved

Tutor

Tutors meet with students on Saturday mornings from 10:00am–12:00pm. They provide support in writing and math, helping students build strong academic foundations.

Class Lead

Class Leads facilitate mentoring sessions, guide mentors, and support students with curriculum and resources.

Mentors

Mentors meet with students on Saturday afternoons from 12:30pm-2:30pm. Student-mentor teams work together to develop professional skills and explore careers and colleges. Additionally, mentors help students select summer programs and prepare applications.

Other Volunteer Positions

In particular, we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to lead the following efforts:

Lunch Lead – Make sure students are fed and happy on Saturday sessions by planning and placing food orders and coordinating the lunch set-up and clean-up teams. Main activities take place Sept-May.

Volunteer Recruiting Lead – Manage the volunteer recruiting efforts and team by planning and enacting a targeted recruitment strategy and interviewing potential volunteers. Year-round, main activities take place Aug-Oct.

Volunteering Matters!

Volunteering with Minds Matter Portland is a meaningful and inspiring way to support motivated young people in your community. Not only will you make a direct impact in students’ lives, but you’ll also join a vibrant community of like-minded professionals.

Throughout the year, we host volunteer-only events such as happy hours and fundraisers—perfect opportunities to connect, network, and build lasting friendships. Volunteers also have the chance to join our leadership team, helping shape the strategic vision and direction of the organization.

Our volunteer community is diverse, representing careers in technology, law, education, medicine, and more. Many of our mentors are also pursuing graduate degrees at local universities, bringing fresh perspectives and experiences to our students.
