June, 2026 Newsletter!

This year’s annual Jazz Soiree marked 20 years of Minds Matter Portland, and it was our most successful fundraiser yet, raising over $125,000! The music was on point, the food and drinks were tasty, and the student speakers shared stories that moved and inspired our community. We couldn’t have asked for better vibes. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate our students and our impact, and to all who supported us in raising the funds needed for another successful year!

A Soirée to Remember!🥂

We want to extend a special thank you to our sponsors who made this event possible:

Program Updates!

Summer Programs

We are thrilled to share where our sophomores and juniors will be attending summer programs this year! These experiences give students an opportunity to explore college life, experience a campus environment, and gain insight into the academic expectations and workload of higher education. Check out where our students are headed this summer!

Congrats, Class of 2026!

Our seniors are college-bound, and we couldn’t be more proud of all they have accomplished. In May, we celebrated their hard work, perseverance, and achievements with friends, family members, and mentors. It was a very special day where we got to recognize their unique journeys and hear their thoughtful reflections as they prepare for this exciting next chapter. Congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 2026! 🎓

Check out where our Seniors are headed next in their academic journey!

Volunteer Spotlight

2026 Sid Eaton Award Volunteer

Mentor - Alex

This year’s Sid Eaton Volunteer of the Year award recognizes Alex for his outstanding dedication, leadership, and commitment to Minds Matter Portland. Alex first joined as a mentor in 2012 and has spent more than a decade supporting students as they navigate high school, college, and beyond. After mentoring multiple cohorts of students and taking a brief pause to focus on family, Alex returned in 2024 to help launch our Hillsboro site, where he has become a trusted mentor to both students and fellow volunteers.

Known for his encouragement, generosity, and ability to connect with students through their interests and goals, Alex helps mentees build confidence and envision bright futures. Whether he’s sharing life lessons, supporting program logistics, or simply bringing cookies to brighten a Saturday morning, Alex consistently goes above and beyond. We are grateful for the positivity, care, and leadership he brings to our community. Congratulations, Alex, and thank you for all you do! 🎉
